'Can you tell me where the Milky Way is?' If you live in Amsterdam, you will no doubt have heard this odd question many times. It is asked by tourists looking for the Melkweg (Milky Way in English). The answer is: near the Leidseplein, because that is where the Melkweg is located. This is the place to go to for your daily dose of concerts, photo exhibitions, theatre, and more.

Top bands

In other words the Melkweg is a versatile cultural centre established in an old milk factory. It has much more to offer than just music performances. Even so it has welcomes the likes of U-2, Prince, the Beastie Boys, Coldplay and The Foo Fighters since 1970, when it was still a youth centre.

All grown up

After a number of successful renovations to improve the halls and connect the Melkweg to the Stadsschouwburg (city theatre), the Melkweg has clearly outgrown its hippie days. Do stop by if you are near the Leidseplein. And if you can’t find it, ask for directions to the ‘Milky Way’...
