Proeflokaal (tasting room) Wynand Fockink

If you stand on the Dam Square, facing the Krasnapolsky Hotel, and turn right down the narrow street, Pijlsteeg, you will find the “hidden” tasting room Wynand Fockink. Although this liqueur distillery dates back to 1679, and has changed hands many times over the years, it has managed to retain its authentic atmosphere. Wynand Fockink offers an enormous selection of jenever and liqueurs. Opening hours are daily from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. - feel free to go by and try a glass!

  • Try the quintessentially Dutch liquor called ‘jenever’.
  • Experience the authentic atmosphere at proeflokaal Wynand Fockink.
  • Attend a workshop and brew your own jenever (gin).

Jenever from Wynand Fockink

Wynand Fockink is more than just a tasting room: you can also take group tours to see the distillery, participate in tastings, and even take a workshop to learn how to distill your own jenever. You will learn everything there is to know about the distilling process, including the various flavors that are used in producing traditional Dutch liqueurs such as Volmaakt Geluk, Bruidstranen and Hansje in de Kelder.

What’s the best way to drink jenever?

Jenever is a typically Dutch product, and the Wynand Fockink tasting room has elevated drinking jenever to a truly unique experience. Here is your first lesson in drinking jenever: The glass is filled nearly to overflowing, creating a “head” on top. Next, put your hands on your back, and lean over towards to the glass to slurp the head off the top. It is considered a sin to lift the glass and then (inevitably) spill your jenever. Consider yourself warned!
