Westerkerk Amsterdam

The ‘Westerkerk’ is the largest protestant church of Holland and dates from 1631. It’s a beautiful structure with an imposing 85 meter high tower looking out over Amsterdam. The church Westerkerk also includes a carillon with 50 bells and an impressive organ.

History of the Westerkerk

The church has played an important part in the history of Amsterdam. In 1669 painter Rembrandt van Rijn was buried somewhere in the church (nobody knows exactly where). Anne Frank mentions the Westerkerk several times in her diary. Moreover, Queen Beatrix married Claus von Amsberg here in 1966.
