Kop van Zuid
Cruise Terminal and Hotel New York
To the right of the bridge is Wilhelminakade with its fully renovated Cruise Terminal, the former arrival and departure hall of the Holland America Line. Today, you can see big cruise ships dock here. It also boasts renovated warehouses that now serve as home to students, as well as the Marine Safety Center and Hotel New York. Hotel New York was the Holland America Line’s head office built by C.B. van der Tak, Drooglever Fortuyn, and J. Müller in 1901. It was converted into a hotel/grand café in 1993.
Offices and coastline
Facing the bridge is the Wilhelminahof with its new Tax Office and Justice offices, the new courthouse, an office tower, and access to the Wilhelminaplein metro station. The work of art to the right of the bridge was created by the architect P. Wilson and in addition to the time and temperature, also indicates the (estimated) world population. The other digits are random and have no meaning.
De Rotterdam by Rem Koolhaas is one of the most notable buildings on the Kop van Zuid. The three interconnected towers, that rise nearly 150 meters up into the sky, form a ‘vertical city’ with luxury apartments, a four-star hotel, offices, shops, restaurants and cafés, sports and parking facilities
