Royal The Hague bicycle itinerary

Discover the many palaces, estates and castles that have turned The Hague into the beautiful city on the coast. The Hague has a long history with the Dutch royal family. This bicycle itinerary will take you from Noordeinde Palace through the Haagse Bos to Huis ten Bosch, which is the residence of Princess Beatrix.

  • Cycle past the most beautiful palaces, manors and castles in The Hague.
  • Admire the residences of Princess Beatrix, and King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
  • The bicycle tour takes about 2.5 hours.

Continue on this path and leave the forest near Louwman Automobiel Museum. Cross the road and turn right towards Wassenaar. A few kilometres on, you will notice the ‘Landgoederenroute’ signs that mark the estate itinerary. Follow this itinerary to discover the most beautiful castles, villas and estates in Wassenaar. These include the estate Landgoed de Paauw, which is where Prince Frederick Henry of the Netherlands used to live. Soon after, cross the Rijksstraatweg at the big junction. You are now on the Papeweg and will see the royal estate of ‘Koninklijke Landgoederen de Horsten’. King William Alexander and Queen Máxima live here in Villa Eikenhorst.

Continue to the end of the Papeweg until you reach Voorschoten railway station. Turn right twice into the Horstlaan. You will now ride between Duivenvoorde Castle and Ter Horst Castle towards the Rijksstraatweg, following the same itinerary back to The Hague. In The Hague you can also follow the pedestrian itinerary on the bicycle to see several royal highlights in the inner city. This bicycle tour takes around 2.5 hours to complete.
