The Hague Museum of Photography organizes multiple exhibitions every year. They cover a wide range of periods, disciplines and genres in the history of photography, often focusing on the portrayal of mankind. The museum
The Hague Museum of Photography is located in the building designed by architect Sjoerd Schamhart, originally an annex to The Hague Gemeentemuseum. GEM, the museum for contemporary art is also located in this building.
Dutch World Press Photo
Every year, The Hague Museum of Photography organizes the Silver Camera awards for the most impressive press photographs made in various categories. A few of these categories are national and international news, portraits, and sports and there’s a photography story of the year award and could perhaps be seen as the Dutch variation of the World Press Photo.
Varied exhibitions
In the exhibitions, work of new and established photographers is alternatively presented. Contemporary names alternate with classic photographers, and even little-known oeuvres by Dutch and international photographers are placed in the spotlight, such as Loretta Lux, Rineke Dijkstra, Man Ray and Erwin Olaf. The variety within the collection offers great interpretations of landscapes, portraits, fashion photography and socially relevant projects. One of the intriguing series this museum hosted was on the Yugoslavia Tribunal by Friso Keuris.
