Betje Boerhave Museum

Betje Boerhave was a 19th century grocery woman. At the time such ambitionsin women were frowned upon in Holland. Today her courage is commemorated in aromantic grocery store in Utrecht’s city centre: the Betje Boerhave museum.

Back in time

The museum and shop, where Betje is said to have lived, can be found between the Neude and the Janskerkhof near Domplein square. The museum consists of an exhibition room with a range of products from Betje’s time and a shop that takes you even further back in time.

Old-fashioned products

The shop sells a range of tasty products from times past: barley gruel, lentils, fresh mustard and unpackaged tea as well as lots of sweets including butter waffles, peppermint and a variety of liquorice.
