Spring on Texel island
Texel lambs
Texel is known for its lovely lambs, which you will find skipping through the meadows for the ultimate spring feeling. There is even a special ‘lamb bicycle route’ and if you want to cuddle one, visit the Rozenhout sheep farm. If you are a meat eater, restaurant Bij Jef serves Texel lamb like you have never tasted it before.
Local dishes
Texel is definitely the place for you if you love good food. In addition to Texel lamb, you can go pick your own fresh vegetables and fruit at de Zelfpluktuin or ‘Pick your Own Garden’, for instance. The calendar shows you what is ripe for the picking and you can take what you feel like eating. Or visit the Wezenspyk cheese farm and taste cheese from cows and sheep that graze on the island. These are great places to see and wonderful produce to try!
Flower-bulb bicycle route
While Texel is not known as the 'flower-bulb region' in Holland, the islanders do have some wonderful flower-bulb fields. The island organises special bicycle routes along beautiful fields filled with daffodils, hyacinths and crocuses from early April until the end of May. There is also a special bulb flower garden where you can pick and create your own spring bouquet.
