|My tip:||The view from De Burcht in Leiden|
“It is fun to act like a tourist and be inquisitive, even in your own country."
I like to go on city breaks with friends, where we like to experience as much as possible over a long weekend. In addition to a city’s cultural attractions, we of course also like to know what kind of nightlife the city has to offer. I like to alternate these city breaks with somewhat calmer holidays with my girlfriend and daughter, where we like to go walking, shopping and out for nice meals.
I can highly recommend Leiden as a city. It is a sort of small version of Amsterdam, with a whole host of attractive terraces and beautiful old streets with canals. If you are visiting Leiden, I would definitely visit the Burcht — a medieval fort located in the centre of the city on a magnificent green hill. From the Burcht, you will have a fantastic panoramic view over the city. For something to drink, go to Koetshuis de Burcht at the foot of the Burcht, or go to the beer shop on Hartesteeg, a few streets further on, for a speciality beer.
'A visit to Leiden is not complete without enjoying the view from the Burcht.'
