Many people don’t know how wonderful The Hague is, yet it is a wonderful city full of traditions, history and culture. At night you go to Scheveningen, order a glass of wine at a beach club and enjoy the beautiful subset. You’ll definitely have a good time!

Beach and culture

I moved to The Hague ten years ago and live in the district of Scheveningen. A ten-minute bike ride takes me to the beach and even after ten years I still go there several times each week to get some fresh air and take pictures. I really enjoy seeing the horizon, the sea, the beautiful skies. There is a lot of culture, too: the Gemeentemuseum, Beelden aan Zee sculpture museum and Fotomuseum are all just around the corner.

If you want to visit the Dance Theatre or hear some classical music, it’s an easy ride to the Hague’s city centre and the railway takes you to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Holland is a small country and many beautiful and interesting towns and cities are just a stone’s throw away. I can’t get enough of the beautiful canal houses, merchant houses and bascule bridges. There are so many traditions, but there is a lot of modern art and architecture, design as well, for instance in Rotterdam which I think is one of the most innovative cities.

My tips for Scheveningen:

Go for a walk on Zuiderstrand beach and through the dunes and have a look at the Kurhaus Hotel. I also recommend shopping on the Frederik Hendriklaan and having a lovely cup of coffee at the Paagman book shop.
