Brabant: Europe’s most hospitable and innovative region
Heart of Europe
Welcome to the province of Brabant, where the love of the good life goes hand in hand with the ultimate in hospitality. Brabant is located at the centre of the Benelux region, easily accessible by bus or train from Amsterdam, Antwerp, Brussels or Cologne. Our province is also easy to reach from the international airports at Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Schiphol, Weeze, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Brussel s and Charleroi. Various (low cost) airlines connect Brabant to the rest of Europe.
Van Gogh’s Homeland
The world-famous artist Vincent van Gogh was born and grew up in Brabant and was inspired by the Brabant countryside. You can still visit many of the locations he featured in Brabant! Van Gogh Village Nuenen, close to Eindhoven is a reminder of no fewer than 23 Van Gogh locations, including the Opwetten Watermill and the Van Gogh Church. But you can also become acquainted with a relatively unknown period of this world-famous artist’s life in Zundert, Etten-Leur and Tilburg. You can admire original works by Van Gogh in the ‘Story of Brabant’ exhibition in the Noordbrabants Museum in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
But there is more...
Unique walled towns such as Heusden and ’s-Hertogenbosch offer a wealth of historic monuments including cathedrals, fortifications and courtyards. The most famous Dutch artist of the Middle Ages, Hieronymus Bosch lived and worked in ’s-Hertogenbosch.
Brabant is home to one of Europe’s leading theme parks, with more than 4.6 million visitors a year; Efteling. If you’re in search of that ultimate Africa experience, visit Europe’s largest wildlife park, Safaripark Beekse Bergen. Brabant is also the cradle of Dutch Design with Eindhoven as Dutch Design Capital. In 2017 the Brabant-wide programme will offer visitors a unique glimpse into designer studios and official workplaces. The unique museum collections and design events are also definitely worth a visit. This includes the Graphic Design Festival in Breda in September, and Eindhoven celebrates 25 years of Dutch Design this year, the highlights of which are the international editions of the Dutch Design Week and the World Design Event in October.
A cluster of five cities; Eindhoven, 's-Hertogenbosch, Breda, Tilburg and Helmond together form one of the world’s most exciting and creative hotspots. Breda has on many occasions been chosen as the best town centre in the Netherlands and ’s-Hertogenbosch received the award for the most hospitable city four years in a row. Tilburg, where formerly the textile industry played a leading role, is nowadays renowned as a lively city of events, packed full with (cultural) activities throughout the year!
The people of Brabant themselves complete the picture. They are well-known for being friendly and hospitable. Hard working people who know the best way to enjoy the good things in life. Experience Brabant hospitality for yourself!
