Bicycle tour to Keukenhof
Leiden lies on the edge of the flower-bulb region and is just a stone’s throw away from the world-famous Keukenhof tulip park. If you want to stay out of traffic and enjoy the Dutch flower-bulb fields at their best, you should definitely rent a bicycle and take this itinerary. From Leiden’s centre you will reach the Keukenhof park in just one hour.
Start at the Visitor Centre facing Leiden Central Station and turn right, following the railway tracks. Cross underneath the viaduct and turn left into Oegstgeesterweg. Follow this road until you reach the roundabout, where you will turn right and ride towards Warmond in a straight line. You will be on Laan van Oud Poelgeest, Abtspoelweg, Leebrug, Oranje Nassaulaan, Herenweg and Oostende successively. Cross beneath the highway, continue straight on at the roundabout and then turn right into Hoofdstraat. After another few kilometres on Hoofdstraat, you will reach a roundabout. Turn left into Carolus Clusiuslaan. You will find yourself in the middle of the colourful flower fields. At the next roundabout turn right into Loosterweg and follow it until you reach the Keukenhofbos.
All in all this tour will take about an hour, but take time to stop, take some pictures and experience the scents and colours of the flower-bulb region. You will find plenty of cafes and terraces for a sandwich, snack, coffee or soda along the way.
