In 2016, 500 years after Hieronymus Bosch died, Den Bosch celebrates the life and work of this famous painter. He will be honoured with countless cultural events and activities for every age in the fantastic manner that marks his own style.

Jheronimus Bosch-themed carnival parade

Location: Den Bosch’s city centre

In 2016 the famous Den Bosch carnival parade will be Hieronymus Bosch-themed. Come and enjoy the exuberant atmosphere, the wonderful costumes and the fantastic floats in a city that’s abuzz with festivities.  

Hieronymus dance show

Location: Theater aan de Parade (address: Parade 23)

Date: 11 February            

A beautiful dance performance choreographed by Nanine Lining marks the preview of the biggest Bosch exhibition ever in the city in which the master was born.  

Bosch Experience opening event

Location: Markt square

Dates: 3 & 4 March

The Bosch Experience kicks off with a festive event and spectacular light show on Markt square in the first weekend of March. 

Bosch Dances

Location: Theater aan de Parade (address: Parade 23)

Date: 1, 2 and 3 April

A wonderful children’s dance show for the entire family at Theater aan de Parade, which can be found next to the great Saint John’s Cathedral in Den Bosch.  

Bosch’s World

Location: Various stages in the centre of Den Bosch

Dates: 4 & 5 June             

In the streets surrounding the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center, you will hear music, a smith’s hammering, laughter from playing children, merchants calling. The public will laugh at the jokes and acrobatics of jugglers and fools. People are dressed in late medieval costumes. On several stages, theatre groups perform amusing comedies. The scent of medieval snacks draw visitors to the stalls, and medieval beer and juices moisten thirsty throats. On 4 and 5 June 2016, you might think you are in a medieval city: ’s-Hertogenbosch at the time of Hieronymus Bosch.  

Bosch Parade

Location: Boating through Den Bosch’s city centre

Dates: 18, 20, 21 June

Floating parade of contemporary artistic creations inspired by the world of Jheronimus Bosch through the centre of the medieval city. Find a free spot near the fortified walls and banks along the Dommel river, as well as at the foot of the Citadel and enjoy this beautiful parade. The free app will complete your experience.

Boulevard theatre festival

Location: Several locations in and around Den Bosch

Dates: 4-14 August

The Boulevard theatre festival is the international city and summer festival in southern Holland and a breeding place for young, renowned stage artists. Immerse yourself in the inspiring world of the theatre and enjoy the pleasant bustle on several theatre squares and special performance sites. In 2016, the festival offers a comprehensive Bosch-inspired programme.

Bosch requiem

Location: Saint John’s Cathedral (address: Torenstraat 16)

Date: 6 November           

A unique concert in a historical setting: the Bosch requiem at Saint John’s Cathedral in Den Bosch. The Royal Concert Hall Orchestra performs the international opening night of a composition created especially for this commemorative year.
