De Hallen is Haarlem’s museum of modern and contemporary art. The art on display at De Hallen Haarlem covers a broad range of works created by the masters of modern art. In addition to this permanent collection, the museum organises three temporary exhibitions each year. These provide a platform for young Dutch and foreign artists who represent the most current developments in modern art.
De Hallen is an exhibition space and museum of modern and contemporary art, located on the Grote Markt in Haarlem. With an emphasis on contemporary photography and video presentations, the museum presents art exhibitions in three different National Heritage buildings: the Vleeshal, two halls in the Verweyhal.

The De HallenHaarlem collection includes over ten thousand works that together offer acomprehensive overview of pre-WWII, post-WWII and contemporary modern art. The artists inthe collection represent a mix of local artists and world-famous modernists,including Piet Mondrian.You will find paintings, sculptures and ceramics but De Hallen has beenfocusing on photography and motion pictures since 2001.
A remarkable building was completed on the GroteMarkt early in the 17th century. Thisbuilding, decorated with countless ornaments and a beautiful stepped gable, wasHaarlem’s new ‘vleeshal’ or public freshmeat market. It is a monument in Dutch Renaissance style thattoday houses De Hallen museum. Its architecture is well worth an extended visiteven without the art and workshops offered by the museum.
