アムステルダムから程近いザーンセ･スカンスは、今も人々が住む保存地区と博物館です。１７，１８世紀のオランダの生活が蘇ります。伝統的な家屋、歴史的な造船所、白鑞工場、チーズやデーリー・ファーム、古い日常品点、木靴工場やデモンストレーション、そして風車がこのエリアの自慢です。
世界初の工業エリア
約250年前､このエリアには６００基以上の風車がひしめいていて、世界初の“工業エリア”を形成していました。これらの風車では、木材板、絵の具、マスタード、油や紙などを生産していました。それらの風車はいま、ザーンセ･スカンスらしい美しい風景を生み出しています。ザーン川で船上から見る眺めが特におすすめです。古い風車が３基並んでいて、中を見学することができます。
