Amsterdam Shopping

A couple shopping in Amsterdam

The two main shopping streets are Kalverstraat and Leidsestraat. The Museum District is home to luxury boutiques and designer stores located on and around the exclusive P.C. Hooftstraat. The narrow streets in the historic canal ring area such as the “Negen Straatjes” are dotted with great art galleries, jewellers, boutiques and vintage stores making the area a true shopper’s paradise. For arts and antiques the “Spiegelkwartier” is a must do.

De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets)

Between Leidsestraat and Raadhuisstraat there is an area known as De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets), named after the nine side streets connecting the main canals. Together they constitute an appealing neighbourhood full of unique shops, wonderful places to have lunch and a great atmosphere.

Shop, shop, shop!

Shopping in Amsterdam is not just an exercise in retail therapy, more a voyage of discovery! With over ten thousand shops, Amsterdam has everything you would expect from a modern European city: It has several large department stores, exclusive fashion shops, numbers of art and antique dealers and different markets, such as the well known Albert Cuyp market. So whatever you are looking for, you have a great chance of finding it in Amsterdam!

Haarlem really does surprise!

Haarlem is a paradise for shoppers. No wonder that the city was twice voted best shopping city in the Netherlands. The historical centre offers a wealth of shops. In addition to the high street, which houses the most important international retail chains, there are many delightful side streets with smaller shops. Exclusive home furnishing shops, trendy fashion boutiques, shops that sell antiques and collectables, and a large range of specialist shops are all to be found in the charming and traffic-restricted city centre.

Neighbourhood markets

Visiting open-air markets is one of the best ways to soak up authentic culture in a travel destination. Amsterdam's markten (markets) are alive with the colours, smells and sights that define the local flavour here. Discover our village of neighbourhood markets (e.g. Albert Cuypmarkt, Noordermarkt, Dappermarkt, Ten Katemarkt), most of which are open year-round, rain or shine.
