Keukenhof

Keukenhof is an unforgettable experience for people of all ages. The historic park with more than 2700 trees covers an area of thirty-two hectares, full of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and all the other spring bulbs. The floral displays in the park and the unique flower shows in the various pavilions are a glorious visual feast.
Flowers
Every year more than 7 million flower bulbs are planted in the park. These can be seen throughout the park and include a historical garden, a natural garden and different inspirational gardens. In the midst of this spectacle of colour there are beautiful sculptures and other exquisite works of art.
But not everything is outside, the four pavilions within the park offer a variety of unique indoor flower shows such as orchids, roses, carnations, irises, lilies and many others.
History
In 1949 a group of prominent bulb growers and exporters started the first open air flower exhibition in Lisse. The area on which Keukenhof now stands was part of the estate that belonged to Jacoba of Bavaria in the 15th century. Besides being used for hunting, the herbs for the kitchen at the castle were gathered here, hence the name Keukenhof which literally means “Kitchen Garden”.
Theme 2010: From Russia with Love
This special theme will be seen in the design of the garden and will be inspired both by love and by Russia.
Flower Parade
The famous flower parade of the bulb region will take place on April 24th. Enormous floats and cars richly decorated with flowers drive along the 40 km route from Noordwijk to Haarlem.
