Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands

The old seaport of Amsterdam, the Eastern Docklands, has changed very rapidly since housing projects were permitted at the end of the last century. Renowned architects, specialized in building along a waterfront, changed the old docks and port buildings into a modern residential area of Amsterdam.

Modern Living in Historic Storehouses

You can take a tour by foot or bike through this relatively new urban area in Amsterdam. You’ll notice how the storehouses have historical look on the outside, while being a modern residential building on the inside. Furthermore, there are plenty of restaurants, theaters and clubs in this area. Take for instance the ‘Bimhuis’ and ‘Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ’.

Experience the Eastern Docklands

The local tourist information (VVV) has maps that show great walking- and cycling tours you can take to discover all the ins and outs of the Eastern Docklands. Everyone who’s interested in architecture should definitely spend a few hours here.
