Water and the Dutch

The Dutch have always had a special relationship with water. We have had to protect our country against the water for centuries now because our territory is largely below sea level. But centuries ago the Dutch were also well-known explorers who thrived on the water. Today the Dutch are famous in particular for their water engineering projects, helping countries around the world protect themselves from the water. After the disaster caused by hurricane Katrina, their expertise is now being put to use in New Orleans (U.S.) to protect its population from future floods. Prince William Alexander, our future king, is an expert in the field of water management. Fortunately we also have plenty of opportunities to enjoy water for recreational purposes.
