Royal Tichelaar Makkum

One of Holland’s oldest companies is Royal Tichelaar Makkum. Centuries of ceramic history started out in with a brickyard halfway through the 16th century. Bricks were replaced for pottery in 1670, which changed into ornamental earthenware in 1890.

Royal Tichelaar Makkum knows how to combine two extremes: traditional and modern. Although it has been a family business with its own traditions for centuries, new ideas for production methods and products are welcomed with open arms. An example of one of their major projects is the terracotta-tiled façade of the Museum of Art and Design in New York.
