Discover the monuments of Dordrecht from the waters: with the open electric boat Dordtevaar, you will calmly sail through the historic harbours, past ancient quay walls and houses built in the water, over the Oude Maas river and past Groothoofdspoort gate. The ‘Waterrondje Dordt’ (Dordrecht Water Round) starts at Wijnbrug bridge. From April to October, boat trips are held every day.
- Take a boat trip past the old harbours in an electric boat
- Book a romantic night’s stay in the water tower Villa Augustus
- Cycle through areas that were once completely submerged
Sleeping in a water tower
Two of Dordrecht’s water towers have been given a new purpose. On the former water supply terrain, Villa Augustus offers unique hotel rooms in the nineteenth-century water tower and a lively café-restaurant in the former pumping station. You can walk freely through the surrounding vegetable and ornamental gardens. The view from the rooms of Hotel De Watertoren is an entirely green one. In this water tower of Dubbeldam, visitors stay at the polder’s edge.
Cycling along creeks
Take a cycling trip over the island of Dordrecht , using dikes and cycling paths that run along the rivers, right through the polder past pristine creeks and the willow farming forests and tidal willow forests of De Biesbosch. At the Biesboschcentrum, you can rent canoes and rowboats to explore this nature reserve near Dordrecht.
Taking the water bus
The modern water bus provides a rapid connection by water between Dordrecht and the Alblasserwaard and also sails to Rotterdam and the Hollandse Biesbosch. Bicycles can be taken aboard for free – perfect for a cycling trip through the area of Dordrecht.
