  • Don’t miss these attractions: Floral Art Museum, and Flower Festival Aalsmeer
Aalsmeer is world-famous for its flower cultivation and the flower auction house in particular. Visit the auction house early in the morning to see how flowers from around the world are traded here. After visiting the auction house, there are plenty of activities to experience in and around Aalsmeer.

Flowers year round in Aalsmeer

There are two museums in Aalsmeer: the Flower Art Museum and Museum Historische Tuin, the latter a ‘living museum’ showcasing horticulture in Aalsmeer between 1700 and approximately 1960. The Tuinhuis (garden house) serves a wonderful lunch and you can also board a boat for a delightful boat tour. In June, flowers and floristry take center stage with extra activities during the Flower Festival, which lasts several days.

Natural beauty at Westeinderplassen

Aalsmeer may be near Schiphol Airport but it is still a great place to go hiking and cycling, for instance in the nearby Westeinderplassen nature reserve, a huge water-rich area with lakes and ditches where you can go boating, swimming, SUP boarding, and canoeing. Many bird species live here and there are rare plants and fish. Along the shore, you will find several attractive marinas and small beaches.
