Vlaggetjesdag or Flag Day is the day on which the first herring is brought in. Scheveningen traditionally celebrates with a huge street festival. The ships are inspected in the harbour and there is a herring race. Or go to the beach volleyball tournament or one of the great activities for children.
North Sea Regatta
The North Sea Regatta is Holland’s biggest sailboat race and a huge spectacle for both sailors and audience. Thousands of boats in different classes compete in wonderful races. Near the beach you can see (or participate in) other water sports like kite, wind and golf surfing. You can also simply enjoy the happy crowds, with top chefs presenting their dishes and plenty of live music.
The Scheveningen Pier is an eye-catching highlight on the boulevard. It juts into the sea and features several bars, restaurants and shops. You can also go for a ride in Europe’s first seabound Ferris wheel, which offers a stunning view 50 meters above the sea. Did you know you can spend the night on the pier? The Pier Suites at the end of the pier offers a fantastic view. Everybody wants to wake up to the swishing sound of the waves.
Scheveningen and accessibility
Scheveningen is one of the Hague's seaside districts, turing it into a real city by the sea! From the city center, a tram takes you to the beach in just twenty minutes!
