People from Zwolle are colloquially known as Blauwvingers (Blue Fingers). According to legend, this name came about when they sold their damaged, old church bells to the people of Kampen. When the people of Zwolle received their payment – a cart full of copper coins – they literally got blue fingers counting them. It's a lasting reminder of the old rivalry between the two cities.

Enjoy festivals such as beer festivals, the Sinterklaas parade and King's Day. Every second Sunday of the month, the bandstand on the square holds a musical event. Explore the street art in Assendorp by following a 7 km walking route past 18 murals ranging from impressive works of art to small hidden gems. The route takes about two hours on foot.
