Safe cycling

Cycling in Holland is a safe, easy and relaxed activity. More than 32,000 kilometres of bike paths stretch out in all directions, so you can go wherever you want. On top of that, more than 30,000 kilometres of biking route networks have been set out, which are indicated by way of the cycling junction network and the long-distance LF Routes . The signage for cyclists is excellent, making it difficult indeed to get lost as a cyclist. And, last but by no means least, the Dutch are used to cyclists in traffic and take your participation in traffic into account.

Renting a bicycle

There may well be no more enjoyable way to discover Holland than by bike. Discover the best cycling routes around The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam, through beautiful nature reserves such as Hoge Veluwe and past the most breathtaking windmills in the world. You can rent bicycles in many places, including in the vicinity of large train stations, in city centres, and often at your accommodations as well.
Tip: Rent a simple single-speed bike, possibly with a coaster brake: they’re easy to use. In addition to renting bikes, you can also opt for an organised cycling tour with a tour guide. Not only is it fun, it’s educational too! Be sure to inquire when renting a bike or visiting a tourist information centre.

Cycling in Amsterdam

Renting a bicycle during your stay in Amsterdam is absolutely worth it! Get on your bike and take the most beautiful routes through Amsterdam, along mesmerising canals, over the well-known Dam Square and past the stately Rijksmuseum, or cycle from Amsterdam to Edam. You can rent bicycles at many places, including:

  • MacBike Amsterdam – at Central Station and Waterlooplein 99
  • Yellow Bike – Nieuwezijds Kolk 29 and Oudezijds Armsteeg 22 (3-minute walk from Central Station)
  • Bike City – Bloemgracht 90 (in the Jordaan quarter)
  • Rent-a-Bike Damstraat – Damstraat 20
