The city theatre provides an extensive programme and draws some 250,000 visitors every year. One of the highlights each year is the Netherlands Film Festival, which is held in Stadsschouwburg Utrecht.

Dudok, the architect

Stadsschouwburg Utrecht is a classic design of architect W.M. Dudok. The theatre has a large hall, the Douwe Egbertszaal, with room for 965 visitors. By contrast, the Blauwe Zaal, the smaller of the two venues, has 225 seats for its guests. Since the first performance in September 1941, the city theatre has undergone several renovations over the years to stay up to date.
